MalwareBytes and PC pro - argh!

$

Hi, Clean PC Pro will most likely have got installed with some other free software without you realizing. I think the name may actually be PC Cleaner Pro, unless it is a new product. These types of programs can often be a borderline scam and even the legitimate ones are not worth a cent and can damage your systems registry. The Malwarebytes problem may be related, we need to run some scans to take a closer look at what is on your system.

Please run these scans in the order listed:

Check that the download location is set to the Desktop in which ever browser you will be using to download any of the tools we may use: How to change the download location in IE, Firefox, Chrome and Opera

SCAN 1
Click on this link to download : ADWCleaner Click on the Download Now button and save it to your desktop.

NOTE: If using Internet Explorer and you get an alert that stops the program downloading click on Tools > Smartscreen Filter > Turn off Smartscreen Filter then click on OK in the box that opens. Then click on the link again.

Close your browser and double click on this icon on your desktop:

You will then see the screen below, click on the Scan button (as indicated), accept any prompts that appear and allow it to run, it may take several minutes to complete, when it is done click on the Clean button, accept any prompts that appear and allow the system to reboot. You will then be presented with the report, Copy & Paste it into your next post.

NOTE: If for any reason the report does not appear, open Windows Explorer and click on the C: drive in the left pane, in the right pane you should find a new folder called Adwcleaner, double click on it and you will see the saved logs. Find the log that has a number in brackets starting with an S NOT R, similar to this: Adwcleaner[S1], double click on the one with the highest number and the log will open, Copy & Paste it into your reply.

SCAN 2
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and save it to your desktop. Do not get tempted to download and use any other software that may be advertised on the page.

Note: If you get a warning that the download could harm your system, please ignore it and allow the download to go ahead. FRST is perfectly safe and we would never ask you to download anything that isn't.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
  • Double-click on FRST to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button. DO NOT check any of the Optional Scan options unless requested.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run from. Please copy and paste it into your next reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes another log (Addition.txt). Please also copy and paste that into your reply.

I have the full paid for McAfee Suite. When I go to a Webpage including this Forum, then click on a thread, a new tab opens in my Browser telling me I need to download a Registry Cleaner and Optimizer, and there is a list of Ads on the right side of your Forum that I am sure were not there before. Plus, something turned off McAfee and Windows Defender and it wasn't me that turned them off. For these things to be going on all of a sudden, that tells me there is something on my Computer.

McAfee says the Computer is Clean, but I know you guys do not have Ads here or pop ups. Would appreciate any help you can give!!!!

windows 7 with 44,000 updates???

What you are seeing is not what you think it is. Some updates need to complete installation on boot up and they show numbers that do not relate to the actual number of updates. There will most likely be a line showing the words Registry\Machine\Components, if this is the case and you are not seeing something identical appear at every boot you should find these messages will stop appearing once all the updating is complete.

If the messages persist then we need to investigate further, chances are they will stop once the system is fully up to date. Give it a little time and several more reboots and let us know how it is.

The log is looking good, having removed all the junk and Adware there is very little left to do, how well is the system running now?

There are some entries left for Ad-Aware and Spybot, to remove these I need you to go into Msconfig and re-enable the following items:

Ad-Aware Antivirus
Ad-Aware Browsing Protection
SDTray
Spybot-S&D Cleaning

Then run this Temporary File Cleaner:

NOTE: This will empty your recycle bin, if you have anything you need in there please save it before you run this scan.
Download Temporary file cleaner and save it to the desktop. Make sure you do not use the Download button in the advert at the top of the page, use the big blue button right next to Author: Old Timer which says Download Now @ Author's Site
Double click on the icon to run it (it appears as a dark grey dustbin). For Windows 7 and Vista right click the icon and select Run as Administrator.
When the window opens click on Start. It will close all running programs and clear the desktop icons (they will return after the scan).
When complete you may be asked to reboot, if so accept the request and your PC will reboot automatically.

NOTE: There is no need to post the log, just confirm in your next post that it ran without a problem. At times it may appear to freeze, which is perfectly normal, it may take a while to complete the clean up depending on the amount of temporary files there are on the system.

When done, run another scan with FRST, when the window opens, put a check mark next to Addition.txt before you click on Scan, it will then produce two new logs to copy and post back here.

Please also do a repeat scan with Adwcleaner, just as you did before, and post the new log back here.

FYI: You have a 64bit version of Java installed. Unless you are using the 64bit version of Internet Explorer this will not be used. The bit rate of Java relates to the Browser being used not the bit rate of Windows. All 64bit versions of Windows have the 32bit version of Internet Explorer set as the default, there is a 64bit version, but it is tucked away where you will only find it if you know where to look. All other Browsers are 32bit and only require the 32bit version of Java. I would recommend you uninstall the 64bit version of Java and then go to this link to download and install the 32bit version: Java Download

cannot delete .str files on external drive

Hello. I have an old hard drive that I am using as an external. It works fine, except one third of the space is taken up by files with an STR (not srt) file extension. I cannot delete the files, which is what I want to do. The hard drive came out of an old Emachines desktop that had a bad motherboard and the operating system was XP in case that helps. I've used the unlocker program and it too is unable to delete the files. Any help would be appreciated.

I am on XP. Avast has just started hanging, usually as it is scanning "SVC: {......} > ???" under "quick scan", but sometimes on other things starting with SVC, A straight scan of C: drive causes no problems. I've raised a ticket with Avast but they've ignored me. Any help gratefully received.

Audio virus playing in background

I have a DELL 14 3437 laptop with windows 8.1 64bit.
Recently there seems to be new virus which plays audio tones in the background even if I`m doing nothing at all,no browsers are open, no files are open. Also my laptop performance reduced drastically and also it would restart on its own.

I tried to remove it using tdsskiller.exe but it was not helpful.
Thereafter I used malicious malware remover, junkware remover tool, and HitmanPro.Thereafter for 2 days there were no audio tones. But since I realised my laptop was not performing as good as before. I uninstalled malicious malware remover, junkware remover tool, and HitmanPro. I installed 1-click cleaner and windows 8 manager. After running them, it seemed like a lot of my system files wer infected and had to be fixed. After this the audio tones have come back and the performance is still very sluggish.

Currently my antivirus gives a message as follows:

"McAfee detected an infected file on your PC.Restart your PC so we can fix it.

About This Trojan
Detected: Trojan-FDOQ!828BCAF63645(Trojan)
Quarantined From: C:\Users\Capt.Meril\AppData\Local\Osmics\CoreMedia.dll"

But nothing happens even if i restart my computer, I just get the same error message.

I have run TSG SysInfo and the following is the log:

bloodhound.exploit.33

Hi,

Very impressed with the service that you offer, good to see there are some who still like to help rather than wreak havoc.

I have been having an issue with bloodhound.exploit.33 for 3 weeks now. I was under the misguided impression that Norton would keep my system clean, didn't realise you need malware software as well.

I have read through some relevant posts, and am currently doing scans with Housecall, Malware Bytes and the Kapersky online scanner. Will post the results once done.

I use a windows system image to reinstall windows every now and then to keep my system fresh, but when the first instance of bloodhound appeared and after a re-image, the problem has popped up again.

I have just done a re-image with an image that had no instance of Firefox on it, both times Norton said that bloodhound was in a firefox log file. So I have gone back to IE as a browser. I liked firefoxes bookmark sync, so wouldn't mind going back to it if the program is safe.

I do back up my info daily, to a removable drive, and another one for my system images, how can I tell if these images or my info has been tampered with.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Infected with Gosavenow malware, unable to find program to uninstall.

Hey guys,

I've got a weird problem. My chrome browser is infected with the Gosavenow malware. It appears as two extensions that can be deleted, but reappear every time chrome is closed. Every website I've consulted for advice suggest finding the gosavenow program and uninstalling it. This has worked for previous malware I have picked up. However, no matter how many times I've checked the list of installed programs, none of it appears to be suspicious or malware related.

What can I do?

I'm not sure if it will help, but I'll include my computer info.
