whenever I need to use my friends computer I have no problems. I installed Mozilla firefox and now we both use it almost exclusively. However, today, when I logged in and started the browser, as soon as my requested website came up, all of a sudden there was bunches of ads, and pages beingloaded one after another all by themselves. It was like it was possessed! He plays a lot of games..i haven't been here in two weeks..it was working fine then..He purchased AVG..so I ran a full scan and it showed tracking cookies, adware, malware,trojans..help

it showed 59 threats that were not there 2 wks ago, so I am doing a backup and restore..my question is if avg says "secured " then why does it still happen when I am on firefox..it does not happen on IE..that has me baffled..I noticed that for some reason there were 2 icons on the desktop for mozilla..but only one progam had been installed..but i uninstalled Mozilla and re-installed it and it still does the same thing. I actually could not close it and had to turn off the entire computer and reboot. So I know I need antimalware..is there one for free that is safe?

1) My browser keeps getting hijacked, and 2) I am asked via a pop-up to go to https://opensoftwaredownload.com and install the program.

I have already 1) run avast antivirus 2) run malwarebytes anti-malware 3) checked my Chrome extensions and 4) and run add/remove programs and I cannot find where this program is hidden/located on my laptop.

Any advice on how to get rid of it?

Thank you

Browser adware I can't get rid of.

Hi all,

It's been a while since I've been on here. I am having an issue that apparently is hard to shake off. Basically in my web browser (any kind, they all have the same issue) I keep seeing ads that shouldn't be there - on every website. In addition, when I click links, sometimes they open a new tab to Windows 7 Devices or Desktop Support, or something else bad. It's a very annoying problem. I see "Ad by Browser Shop" near every ad.

I have ran full searches in MS Security Essentials, MalwareBytes and AdAware and cleaned/quarantined all threats detected, but that has not fixed the problem. What else can I try?

I have not backed up my data yet, but plan to do so tomorrow.

Pictures:

// It basically goes everywhere.. even forum posts.

// When I do a google search, at first it looks normal...

// But after a few seconds, a bunch of random links popup at the top of the search results.

Found Bomgar related file on computer

Hi, I found a .tmp (temp) file in my Appdata/Local folder, and I submitted it to VirusTotal and it said in the results (in the file detail tab) that it's from Bomgar software.

Here's a quote from a Wikipedia article on Bomgar software:

...technology support professionals can access and control systems and devices remotely, including personal computers, smartphones, tablets, servers, switches, point-of-sale systems and others.

I never used this service on my computer, so a temp file from it on my computer worries me a bit.
Does anyone know how it could have ended up on my computer?

Thank you in advance!

Hello and Welcome to Tech Support Guy!

My name is Dan, and I'll be helping you with your issues. If someone else is helping you, either here or at another malware removal assistance site, please let me know so that I may direct my efforts to helping another user. The Staff at Tech Support Guy are ALL volunteers; please keep that in mind if I don’t answer your post as quickly as you’d like. I give what time I can. PLEASE be patient. ;)

I am currently in training, so there will be another person reviewing my work. This may cause a bit of a delay in my responses, but on the positive side, you will have two sets of eyes reviewing your logs instead of one...

  • Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform any fixes.
  • Before we proceed, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix. Please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the blue names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which might not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions.
  • Please understand that malware removal is a complicated, multi-step process. Therefore please stay with me until I tell you that your system is clean. Attempting malware removal or clean-up yourself will only extend the time it will take to get your system clean. If you get stuck or have questions, please stop and ask so I can help you.
  • Be sure to back up any personal data files you need to keep (documents, photos, etc.) to a USB flash drive or external hard disk. While every attempt will be made to precisely repair the infections on your computer, due to the complexity and unpredictability of malware clean-up, there is always a risk of data loss.
  • When posting logs, please Copy & Paste the log file contents into a reply. Use multiple posts if necessary, but please do not attach them or post them on a file hosting site.

OK, let's get started...

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

It looks like you need the 64-bit version :D
  • Right click on FRST on your Desktop and choose Run as Administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens, if asked, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Make sure the Addition.txt check-box is checked.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will produce two logs called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Please copy and paste the contents of both of those logs back here.

what is detecting the malware

lick on this link to download : ADWCleaner Click on ONE of the Two Blue Download Now buttons That have a blue arrow beside them and save it to your desktop. Do not click on any links in the top Advert.

See the screenshot where the proper download buttons are highlighted

NOTE: If using Internet Explorer and you get an alert that stops the program downloading click on Tools > Smartscreen Filter > Turn off Smartscreen Filter then click on OK in the box that opens. Then click on the link again.

Close your browser and double click on this icon on your desktop:

You will then see the screen below, click on the Scan button (as indicated), accept any prompts that appear and allow it to run, it may take several minutes to complete, when it is done, you will get a message saying "PENDING" , Ignore that & click on the Clean button, accept any prompts that appear and allow the system to reboot. You will then be presented with the report, Copy & Paste it into your next post.

Explorer problem

Hi,

I have a problem that I get an error box from Explorer saying it has stopped working and is checking for the problem, it then restarts and often after a short time I then get another error box from Explorer which says unknown error and this box just keeps duplicating itself with the only way to stop it being to reset the computer.

I have checked on here and it seems others have had this problem and the first advice is to check MSINFO to see what ids running at startup and after. I have tried this but when I type MSINFO in (which I have used many times OK in the past) all I get is a search results window saying 1No items match your search'.

I have downloaded and run SysInfo and it gives the following result which seems a little sparse :

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 32 bit
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9950 Quad-Core Processor, x64 Family 16 Model 2 Stepping 3
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 3583 Mb
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series, 512 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 305141 MB, Free - 254315 MB; D: Total - 1907728 MB, Free - 1167062 MB;
Motherboard: ASRock, N68C-S UCC
Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials, Updated and Enabled

Oh dear the Explorer error window is now duplicating again but I can still type!

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks,

John Charman

I apologize for not attaching a file with my configuration. When I try to download ANYthing, I get a message that says that "your current security do not allow this file to be downloaded." I have tried this with your file, and for the MS Malware Removal Tool with the same result, but have not changed my security settings.

  • For days, I've been receiving error messages while I'm online, asking if I want to debug, and listing a line of code.
  • Scans are running from my security at times and days when not scheduled.
  • When I open a new tab in IE, there are a couple of sites that I don't recognize and they are "active" -- Blue Media PPC is one of them.
  • The computer is running very slow.

I am using a Dell Inspiron 1545; Processor, Pentium Dual-core CPU, T4300 @ 2.10 GHz
Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1
IE Explorer 11
McAfee Security

Thanks you for your help!

Need help removing possible malware from niece's computer

Referred my niece to this website to get help removing malware on her laptop, but she said she couldn't "figure out how to get help", so I have her laptop for a limited time and offered to do it for her.

SYMPTOMS: She reports that the laptop is extremely slow (I've seen evidence of this, browser pages load much slower than they should). I've seen a few pop-ups asking to download software, as well. Would appreciate a review of the logs and any suggestions you can offer.

I believe my problems started a few days ago when suddenly a pop-up appeared, telling me that my FlashPlayer was needed an upgrade. Thinking I recognized the logo and not paying close attention I clicked two or three times before realizing that I was agreeing to download stuff I didn't want. By then it was too late. Among other things, I'm now seeing something called "GeniusBox" and another application called "taskeng.exe." I believe I ready that both of these are malware. (taskeng.exe opens a window with a totally black background.)

I'm suddenly experiencing many problems online. At times my Google Chrome Speed Dial icons are totally unresponsive when clicked, but at other times they work properly.

I generally use Google Chrome, but using Firefox I clicked on google.com and, for some strange reason, got the following message:

This Connection is Untrusted (google.com). You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.google.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Too often after entering and clicking a search term I see "This webpage is not available."

After experiencing all of the above, I ran two Avast AV (free version) scans and two Malwarebytes (free version) scans. None of these scans detected any problem items.

I would greatly appreciate any and all offers of help. Thank you.
