Hello, I am having some strange problems which I believe to be related and are most likely not a virus. The first involves internet speed issues. I have fast internet through a cable provider but for quite a while now it has been slow and quite often refuses to respond. I originally thought the problem might be with the provider but their tests show no problems on their end. At the same time I started having internet trouble strange ads would randomly appear on my desktop. They were either pdf files or video (some of the images are attached). I haven't been able to find any of the "files" anywhere on my computer and once I close Adobe or Media Player the open files are gone. The other strange thing is unsent drafts are appearing in outlook. They are not addressed to anyone. The only thing they contain is a link to some other site. I have noticed that several of these indicate that they are sent via "shareaholic". I have installed and run SpyBot but it was not able to find anything. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Malware Generator Gone for Good?

Hi

A couple of days ago, after I'd d/led a tool, AVG reported a nasty and dealt with it. Next day it reported another, and dealt with it though I hadn't knowingly d/led anything. I suspected AVG was catching nasties as they were pulled in from a prog that was downloading them. A bit of digging about and I found something called PerformanceMonitor in my roaming profile and dispatched it to digital hell. Today AVG found another, ProxyGate\Cloud.exe. Some more digging and I spotted something had added a call to ppipromotion1.exe to the startup list. It was dispatched also and I left AVG to do a deep scan which reported nothing significant. A few restarts later and nothing else has been flagged.

My question to the experts; how can I tell if I have killed it off completely?

C:\Users\Kimberly\AppData\Roaming\newnext.me\nengine.dll
C:\Users\Kimberly\AppData\Local\Conduit\BackgroundContainer\BackgroundConta iner.dll
Is this the reason my internet won't connect? I wish I could just make like it was when I very first got it put it back to factory state totally.
I know nothing really about computers so I'm sure I probably erased something I really needed. Or something stupid like that.
Help me please!!!! Lol

Hello camsr2000 and welcome,

Continue as follows please:

Change the download folder setting in the default Browser so all tools we may use are saved to the Desktop:

Google Chrome - Click the "Customize and control Google Chrome" button in the upper right-corner of the browser.
Choose Settings. at the bottom of the screen click the
"Show advanced settings..." link. Scroll down to find the Downloads section and click the Change... button. Select your desktop and click OK.

Mozilla Firefox - Click the "Open Menu" button in the upper right-corner of the browser. Choose Options. In the downloads section, click the Browse button, click on the Desktop folder and the click the "Select Folder" button. Click OK to get out of the Options menu.

Internet Explorer - Click the Tools menu in the upper right-corner of the browser. Select View downloads. Select the Options link in the lower left of the window. Click Browse and select the Desktop and then choose the Select Folder button. Click OK to get out of the download options screen and then click Close to get out of the View Downloads screen.
NOTE: IE8 Does not support changing download locations in this manner. You will need to download the tool(s) to the default folder, usually Downloads, then copy them to the desktop.

Next,

Follow the instructions in the following link to show hidden files:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...es-in-windows/

Next,

Please open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
  • On the Settings tab > Detection and Protection sub tab, Detection Options, tick the box "Scan for rootkits".
  • Under Non-Malware Protection sub tab Change PUP and PUM entries to Treat detections as Malware
  • Click on the Scan tab, then click on Scan Now >> . If an update is available, click the Update Now button.
  • A Threat Scan will begin.
  • With some infections, you may see this message box.

    'Could not load DDA driver'
  • Click 'Yes' to this message, to allow the driver to load after a restart.
  • Allow the computer to restart. Continue with the rest of these instructions.
  • When the scan is complete, click Apply Actions.
  • Wait for the prompt to restart the computer to appear, then click on Yes.
  • After the restart once you are back at your desktop, open MBAM once more.
  • Click on the History tab > Application Logs.
  • Double click on the scan log which shows the Date and time of the scan just performed.
  • Click 'Copy to Clipboard'
  • Paste the contents of the clipboard into your reply.

If Malwarebytes is not installed follow these instructions first:

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to the following:
  • Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
  • A 14 day trial of the Premium features is pre-selected. You may deselect this if you wish, and it will not diminish the scanning and removal capabilities of the program.
  • Click Finish. Follow the instructions above....

Next,

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system (32 bit or 64 bit). If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Let me see those logs in your reply....

Thank you,

Kevin...

I made the mistake of looking for the old (XP) version of Paint because I did not like the version in Windows 7. Evidently I downloaded from a disreputable website. There was probably 10 or 15 PUP's attached to the main download. I carefully unchecked each one. It did not matter. It started installing crap on its own and I could not stop it.

I tried doing system restore twice. It failed twice. Unable to change system files or something like that. I ran malwarebytes. It removed 1700+ PUP's. 1700!! Also ran ADWCleaner and removed the problems it found.

I am not confident that I have cleaned everything and so I am seeking expert guidance here. Thank you!

Hello,

I'll be brief. After trying to download a third party freeware (Japanese version) "Mystartups" search page hijacked my Windows Explorer 11. It started to attack my browser with uninvited software downloads and I had trouble closing all the windows. I shut down and restarted in Safemode and then installed Malwarebytes and did a complete scan and clean. I restarted and repeated a complete scan with Malwarebytes Premium version. I then uninstalled what was left of the malware from Control Panel and all shortcuts.

But despite selecting Windows Explorer 11 as default on my internet options "Mystartups" continues to come up on the browser when I turn on. I cannot see this software on the Control Panel. I cannot see any date associated with it or other name and it does not seem to be on My Add Ons either.

I would be very thankful to this forum, and site if any member or specialist could help me with safe steps to remove it. I will gladly furnish you with any more information you need.

We are having multiple problems with this computer. We called Dell and they basically said we probably have a virus and they would happily sell us a software support package for $250 a year. Can someone help me check? I ran AVG scan an no virus. I ran Malwarebytes and no virus. I ran SuperAntispyware and there was a lot of spyware that it got rid of. I can't turn the sound on. I can turn on windows defender. I can't open the control panel. I can't delete Windows media player which came with the computer even though it is a 32 bit program put on a 64 bit machine. I can't access the Microsoft Store.

Can anyone help with this pig?

MBAM blocks "outgoing" file - virus?

Malwarebytes is blocking an outgoing file "ccbidder.tlvmedia.com." It lists an IP of 184.173.133.194, port 50164. I'm not sure what all this means or where it is hidden within my computer system, but I cannot find it, nor quarantine or delete it. It happens several times when I log on to the internet. I have Webroot as my anti-virus as well as Malwarebytes Pro. I also run SuperAntiSpyware. I ran CC Cleaner and ESET online scanner and neither came up with that particular (virus). Please advise. Here is my system information:

windows 8.1 defender won't run

For the last 2 weeks I have been having a problem with Windows Defender being turned off. It won't allow me to restart it, I just get taken to the system 32 folder. Trying to deactivate/reactivate I get the message "this class is not configured to support elevated activation"
I have read that the problem is usually a conflicting security software. I had McAfee preinstalled but I had removed it using the tool and besides defender has been working until recently so something else must be interfering. Any suggestions?
Here is my hijack this log - is there anything that souldn't be there?

Sorry I missed your response. I haven't been on the forum much and missed this in my notifications.

Apparently ComboFix will not work on a Windows 8.1 machine.

Do you still have HijackThis? Let's get a new log since there hasn't been once since March 27.

Do you also still have AdwCleaner on there? We should get the latest version and run a fresh scan with it.

I have not posted here in a considerable amount of time but, am posting with a few different resources to see if there are answers available. First, a few details I feel might help out ... HP Pavilion a530n, running Windows XP Home SP3. My preferred Browser is Google Chrome. Avira free is my Antivirus and, Sygate Personal for my Firewall.
Now, my issue ... The past couple of weeks, I have been plagued with this stupid banner that keeps sliding in on the right side of my screen. It came up here on TSG as well before I logged in. The banner is roughly 1 1/2 inches wide and 4-5 inches long. Gray and orange in color. On the left vertically, is 8 Deals. across the top, says Special Deals with pictures of different items like sunglasses, shoes, etc. On the bottom horizontally, is an "i" in a circle followed by "by Super Shopping".
I have already ran Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware to try to eliminate this and it still persists.
